HEALTH JOURNEY LIFE WITH ME

SHINGLES VIRUS

I’m very thankful to say I’m doing much better since posting about my latest autoimmune fight! Turns out the dreadful sores on my face were shingles again 😖 I’ve had shingles multiple times but this is the first time I’ve had them since being vaccinated a couple years ago. If you don’t know what shingles is here’s an overview: Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you’ve had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles. Symptoms include: pain, burning, numbness / tingling, sensitivity to touch, a red rash that begins a few days after the pain followed by fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over. And itching that drives you crazy!! I’ve had shingles I think four times now … the first three times hit the top of my forehead which my family, friends, & I were surprised I didn’t receive scars from them. This time the sores were under the left side of my lip on my chin. I first thought it was acne, then cold sores, & then realized with how sick I was getting that it was shingles again. My skin has begun to clear up – I’m able to smile without feeling like the skin under my lip is going rip open (you all know how much I love to smile so me having a frowny face all the time was no fun lol). And the skin looks to be healing up nicely where there shouldn’t be any scars left from it. I’m just thankful the intense pain, itchy, & fever has stopped. I can smile once again 😄 just in time for my next adventure coming up! ⛰🌻💚 For treating the shingles I took antibiotics, immune boosting herbs, cleaned the sores multiple times a day with yes to cucumbers calming facial wipes (more gentle then soap on hands), used both neosporin & polysporin, also treated with terrasil shingles skincare (highly recommend), aloe vera, ice, & in the scabbing stage I used the old school Carmex (was next to my pillow every night – provides so much relief with its anesthetic & cooling ingredients) & time 💚 #shinglesvirus#healthadvocate
